Bird Eyewear exists to make Better Eyewear for a Better World.
We’ve built the nest, learned to fly and now we’re ready to soar.
We’ve built the nest, learned to fly and now we’re ready to soar.
With over 35 years of problem-solving, founders Ed, Lawrence and Paul are leading a team to challenge the norms in the eyewear industry, where hundreds of millions of frames are needlessly discarded each year. Most of them built from cheap plastic with little thought given to lifespan, durability, repairability and whether they could be recycled.
We’ve set out to pioneer an alternative approach to materials and brand impact, from innovating our own bio-acetates, and frames made from castor beans, to using recycled materials, sustainable woods or left over materials. Every pair of Birds a masterpiece, fully repairable, recyclable, low-carbon and fit for purpose.
This year we recertified as a B Corp, improving our score from 89 to 128.2, making us the highest-scoring eyewear brand in the world.
We’ve had year-on-year sales growth alongside building a great network of 130 stockists including the Eden Project. Our customer base now extends into the tens of thousands worldwide, with 4.92 average review rating.
Our frames have won numerous awards, including winning Frame of The Year at the prestigious Optician Awards.
Importantly, we also make sure that every pair of Birds gives back through planting our very own forest in Devon and transforming lives through solar light, where we’ve helped over 15,000 families move from burning fossil fuels to safe, renewable solar.
Our team are now poised for our biggest growth year ever which includes opening commercial contracts with several optical buying groups covering nearly 700 stores, expanding our international distribution, partnering with RSPB and the WWF (wildlife, not wrestling), being invited to join Angelina Jolie’s new sustainable fashion network, and working with Formula 1 to use this year’s signage for products at next year’s races. And this is just the start for us.
“For us it’s not just about creating exceptional frames, but extending the mentality that brands and companies should give back more than they take, and leave a positive legacy for people and the planet. We believe the industry has a once-in-history opportunity to demonstrate that creativity and respect for nature can lead to authentic sustainability”.
Ed Bird, CEO.
